The man whose crimes sparked an inquiry into Canada’s youth criminal justice system has entered a plea of not guilty following his arrest last month.
Archie Billard, who was released from prison in November, appeared in provincial court Wednesday to answer to eight charges including driving while disqualified, six weapons offences and a breach of probation.
The Herald reports he has not applied for bail and the Crown is opposed to his release.
He’s being held in custody at the Burnside jail.
Billard was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison and a 10 year driving ban following his conviction for the death of Theresa McEvoy. He was 16-years-old, high on drugs and driving a stolen car when he caused the 2004 crash that killed the 52-year-old teacher’s aide.
He’ll stand trial on the new charges in April.
