School soccer coach accused of assaulting child

A volunteer at a Halifax Elementary School has been arrested and is accused of assaulting a child.
Dalton Jones, 31, is a grade 5 and 6 soccer coach at Park West School in Clayton Park. He was arrested three weeks ago and charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, unlawful confinement and resisting arrest.
CBC is reporting the alleged victims are an adult as well a child who is not a Park West student.
The alleged assaults took place between November 2009 and March 2011 using a broomstick handle.
Jones has a criminal record and the Park West principal was aware of it. A school board spokesperson says there was no reason to think he posed a risk to the students.
Jones is due in court in two weeks.
