Prominent Halifax musician dies

If you’ve ever seen a live pianist performing in a Halifax bar or restaurant, there’s a good chance it was Frankie Arab.

Sadly, the musician and career civil servant passed away over the weekend at the age of 85.

The Fickle Frog Pub owner Helen Davenport describes Arab as true gentle man.

“He was an extremely gentle person who always had a very, very positive outlook,” she says. “He was extremely kind, very caring and gave of himself one-hundred per cent.”

O’Carroll’s owner Bruce Keith tells News 95.7 Arab tickled the ivories at his establishment for over ten years.

“Frankie was the consummate showman. He put everything into every performance and every song,” he says. “He may not have been the world’s most gifted vocalist or piano player but you put his whole package together and his big smile and there was no better experience in the world.”

Arab is also remembered for generously donating his time to community service, with Keith saying there was no cause too small for to help with.

Visitation for Arab will take place at the Atlantic Funeral Home on Bayers Road from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral is set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
