Cape Breton man accused in homeless man attack released; other accused remanded

SYDNEY, N.S. – A man charged in connection with an assault on a homeless man in Cape Breton was released from custody on Thursday.
Forty-seven-year-old Gordon William Bobbitt of North Sydney is charged with obstruction of justice in the July 14 attack on 48-year-old Shawn Kurtis Jack.
Bobbitt allegedly hid or concealed a wrench police seized at the time of his arrest in July.
He was released on a $5,000 property surety and other conditions.
Thirty-four-year-old James Darren Clarke, also charged with obstruction of justice, appeared and agreed to return to court on Aug. 12.
Twenty-five-year-old Kyle William Nichol, who is facing charges including attempted murder in the case, also was in court and was scheduled to return for a hearing on Aug. 11.
