Sleepless in Fall River : Residents complain about overnight construction

As work on extending water service to the community of Fall River continues, many were kept awake all night with the constant pounding of construction equipment.

NEWS 95.7 talk show host and Fall River resident Rick Howe said what sounded like rock crushers started around 7 p.m. Sunday and were still going strong when he left for work at 4:30 a.m. Monday.

The area's councillor Steve Streatch, whose phone started ringing with complaints around 11 p.m., said there is an active permit for infrastructure projects like this which gives crews an exemption from normal noise bylaw restrictions.

“This is a project that obviously is going to be months in the works, so what started last night is unfortunately going to continue for some time to come,” he said.

Streatch told The Rick Howe Show Fall River sits on top of a lot of Bedrock and there's only one way to get through it.

He said work will continue around the clock and the contractor has told him they'll on be in front of each property for a few days as they progress down the road.

“This is going to be painful, there's no two ways about it,” said  Streatch.

He calls it short term pain for long term gain.
