Meteor shower to hit peak Wednesday night

By Mark Hodgins

Look up to the sky to witness something truly out of this world.

Wednesday night marks the peak of the Geminid meteor shower – one of the most active meteor showers of the year.

Saint Mary's University astronomer David Lane said aside from the cold, there is a distinct advantage to watching this celestial event in December.

“It gets dark early, so unlike in the summer where you'd have to be out at midnight, this thing really starts to get going at 8 or 9,” said

During the peak, it's estimated upwards of 120 meteors an hour will be visible.
