Atlantic bubble discussions put on hold

Discussions about the reopening of the Atlantic bubble have been shelved for now.
The bubble allows people to travel between Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island without having to self-isolate for 14 days.
The Council of Atlantic Premiers met by teleconference Tuesday evening and the provincial leaders agreed that recent case counts mean restrictions on non-essential travel need to stay in place for now.
“Premiers will revisit the reopening of the Atlantic Bubble when case numbers have decreased and will continue to make decisions based on advice from the region's chief medical officers of health,” said a statement from the council.
The provincial leaders are hoping the bubble can be reestablished this summer once more people have been vaccinated.
“All four premiers are strongly encouraging all Atlantic Canadians to get vaccinated when the vaccine becomes available to them,” the council added.
