A Halifax man has been handed a fine of $2,422.00 under the Health Protection Act for non-essential travel outside of the municipality after RCMP say he was speeding along the Cabot Trail earlier this week.

An officer pulled his car over at around 6:30 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Du Moine, south of Cheticamp.

Mounties say he was heading to Cape Breton Highlands National Park to hike the Skyline Trail.

Current regulations prevent Nova Scotians from leaving their municipalities, unless it is essential.
