The Snowbirds have cancelled their performance in Nova Scotia.
The team had been scheduled to participate in Air Show Atlantic in Debert later this month.
However, an “operational pause” has been ordered on the Royal Canadian Air Force fleet following an accident involving a CT-114 Tutor aircraft last week in British Columbia.
According to a statement from the Department of National Defence, there was an emergency during takeoff on August 2 in Fort St. John.
The pilot was able to immediately land and was uninjured, but the plane was damaged.
“This operational pause means the fleet of aircraft will not fly until an operational airworthiness risk assessment can be completed,” the DND said.
A statement posted to social media by Air Show Atlantic said they are disappointed for the fans who had hoped to see the Snowbirds take flight, but safety is the top priority.
“While we allow ourselves to take a deep breath and accept this news, we are already working towards bringing several new performers to Air Show Atlantic on August 27th and 28th in Debert, Nova Scotia,” air show organizers said.
“We are fully committed to bringing our fans a full day of flying displays for the first time in Atlantic Canada since 2019.”
The Snowbirds were also forced to cancel some shows earlier this year, including in the Moncton area and the traditional Canada Day fly-past over Ottawa, following a problem with an emergency ejection parachute.
