Playoff run ends early for the Halifax Thunderbirds
The season has officially ended for the Halifax Thunderbirds.
After a 9-3 defeat to the Albany FireWolves on Sunday, the lacrosse squad was eliminated from its quick run in the 2024 NLL Playoffs.
After finishing in sixth spot following setting an attendance record for the NLL team at Scotiabank Centre, the Thunderbirds travelled to Albany to take on the third-place FireWolves.

The game began as a defensive affair, with both teams only scoring a single goal in the opening 15 minutes however Albany took over soon after going on a three-goal spree.
The Thunderbirds were unable to recover as FireWolves goaltender Doug Jamieson stood tall in net for Albany with 52 saves.
In spite of the short playoff run, it was a strong season for Halifax who saw career years from Austin Shanks (23G, 62A) and Dawson Theede (30G, 28A).
Meantime, Randy Staats only played in nine games this year but still earned 5.2 points-per game, a figure that would’ve put him on pace for 94 points this year.

Perhaps most notable, Clarke Petterson put in the best season of his career with a five-assist, seven-point night on April 20.
He also became the first Thunderbird to reach 100 career points becoming the first Thunderbird since 2018 to accomplish such a mark.
