Three Halifax area schools close Tuesday due to threats

Some Halifax-area schools have closed for a second day in a row due to threatening messages.

Millwood High School, Halifax West High School and Park West School have all dismissed students early on Tuesday.

Halifax Regional Centre for Education spokesperson Lindsey Bunin told CityNews, that the closures were in response to threats written on paper and on bathroom stall doors.

“Safety of students and staff is our highest priority and any time a potential threat is directed at a school, it is taken seriously,” Bunin said in an email. “School leaders contact police and investigations take place.”

It was the second closure in as many days at Millwood and Halifax West. Millwood was closed for after-school programming on Monday, while Halifax West dismissed students on Monday morning.

Bunin said the early dismissals are disruptive to school communities.

“As a reminder, in addition to any police consequences, those who endanger the well-being of others, damage property or significantly disrupt the learning environment will receive immediate and appropriate consequences for their actions, as per the Provincial School Code of Conduct Policy.”
