Two schools in the north end of Halifax were placed under a hold and secure on Thursday morning due to a shooting reported nearby.
The hold and secure was lifted around 9:30 a.m., according to the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
Police cruisers were seen on Rosemeade Avenue between Leeds Street and Normandy Drive as of 8 a.m. Neighbours told CityNews Halifax there was a shooting at a house in the area around 7:30 a.m.
Halifax Regional Police confirmed a shooting happened on Rosemeade during a “dispute” between two men who knew each other. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds while the suspect had not yet been found.
“Officers are still in the area and are looking for the suspect,” police said. “He is described as a white man with short dark hair, wearing a beige cardigan over a white shirt, dark baggy pants, grey shoes and carrying a grey shoulder bag.”
In a statement to CityNews Halifax, Halifax Regional Centre for Education communications officer Lindsey Bunin said St. Stephen’s Elementary and Highland Park Junior High were under a hold and secure out of an abundance of caution. Bunin said it had since been lifted and families had been notified.
