Halifax Regional Police says four people are believed to be invovled in several “high-value” thefts in the Halifax area in recent days.
In a news release on Friday, HRP said the group distracts employees while making off with goods.
Police said on Tuesday, about $12,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from a sports apparel store.
“Two males of South Asian descent entered the store and engaged the clerk with questions about various shoes. This distraction caused the clerk to go to the back of the store to retrieve additional items,” wrote Cst. Martin Cromwell. “While the clerk was occupied, two females, also of Southwest Asian descent, entered the store and joined the two males.”
Police said on the same day, the group was involved in a theft at a Shoppers Drug Mart, where about $14,000 worth of fragrances were stolen.
“Similar instances involving the same group were reported in the Moncton area, in New Brunswick,” Cromwell said.
Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
