Roads closed as emergency crews respond to gas leak in Halifax’s north end

There was a large emergency presence in north end Halifax on Friday afternoon as crews responded to a reported gas leak.

Numerous police officers and firefighters were seen near the Rona store on Almon Street as of 1:30 p.m.

Witnesses told 95.7 NewsRadio it appeared a gas line running along Almon had been cut.

In an email, regional police said the leak was impacting an area from Young Street to North Street and from Windsor Street to Agricola Street.

People in the affected area were being asked to close their windows.

Regional police had closed Almon Street to traffic between Windsor Street and Agricola Street, and Robie Street was closed between Young Street and St. Alban’s Street.

There was no word on how long the closure would be in place.
