The Halifax Mooseheads hosted the Val-d’Or Foreurs Friday at the Scotiabank Centre for the Herd’s second game in two days. On Thursday night they fell 3-2 in overtime against the Moncton Wildcats.
Val-d’Or controlled the first period, scoring twice. William Bishop opened the scoring, firing a shot past Jack Milner 11:36 into the period. Alix Durocher added to the Foreurs lead after burying a pass from winger Nathan Baril with about three minutes left in the period.
Val-d’Or added their third unanswered goal five minutes into the third period, as Noah Reinhart beat Milner to widen their lead over Halifax.
The Mooseheads were quick to respond, and less than a minute after Reinhart’s goal, Owen Philips found Amelio Santini down near the Val-d’Or net. Santini capitalized and fired a missile past the Foreurs netminder for Halifax’s first goal of the game.
Just 18 seconds into a Foreurs powerplay, Nathan Brisson beat Milner down low to restore Val-d’Or’s three-goal lead.
Jan Sprynar left the ice after appearing to take a hit to the head in the last half of the third period. Sprynar was helped off the ice and did not return. No penalty was called on the play.
The Mooseheads lost to the Val-d’Or Foreurs 4-1, splitting the season series between the teams. With the loss, the Herd’s record fell to 10-4-4, and the Foreurs improved to 9-16-3.
Val-d’Or centre Alix Durocher claimed first star with the game-winning goal and an assist. Second star went to Nathan Brisson with a goal and assist for the Foreurs and the third star was awarded to Mooseheads winger Amelio Santini with the only Mooseheads goal.
Halifax will be back in action on Sunday, Dec 8th, when it will travel to Acadie-Bathurst to take on the Titan at the Centre régional K.C. Irving. The puck will drop at 3 p.m.
