RCMP investigating fatal house fire in Shubenacadie

East Hants District RCMP has opened an investigation after a house fire in Shubenacadie killed a 73-year-old man.

Around 7:15 a.m. on Dec. 31, RCMP and fire services responded to a report of a house fire on Hwy 215 in Shubenacadie. Two occupants, a 65-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman exited the home safely with no reported injuries. The third occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP say the fire is not believed to be suspicious, but investigators continue to gather information and evidence.

The investigation is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime and RCMP Forensic Identification Services.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this difficult time,” the RCMP said in a release.
