Wanted man and second suspect arrested following early morning crash

A man wanted on a province-wide warrant has been arrested following a motor vehicle crash near Brookfield, N.S.

Police have arrested 27-year-old Tayshawn Maloney and a second man as a result of the incident.

At approximately 1 a.m. on Friday, Colchester County District RCMP and Truro Police Service responded to a motor vehicle crash on Hwy. 102 at Exit 12.

A news release from the RCMP states officers learned that two vehicles, a pick-up truck and an SUV, had crashed off the exit, and three males fled the scene on foot into a nearby wooded area. The same vehicles had fled from a traffic safety checkpoint on McLures Mill Road earlier the same morning.

Truro Police Service officers arrested Maloney after a short foot pursuit. He was wanted on a province-wide warrant for several offences in Halifax and Millbrook, including aggravated assault and attempted murder.

A short time later, RCMP arrested a 17-year-old from Eastern Passage. Police say the youth was armed and wearing body armour at the time of his arrest.

The third suspect is still at large.

Truro Police seized three firearms, two sets of body armour, ammunition, and the two vehicles. Police believe one of the vehicles to be stolen.

The investigation, led by Truro Police with assistance of the Nova Scotia RCMP is ongoing.
