Search suspended for child who fell into Cook’s Cove

RCMP have suspended a multi-agency search for a child who fell into Cook’s Cove in Guysborough County.

It happened April 17 at approximately 1:40 p.m. The child was fishing with a man and another child when they fell into the water. Police say the man tried to rescue the child but was unsuccessful.

More than 13 agencies took part in the search including multiple fire departments, EHS LifeFlight, several volunteer ground search and rescue teams (Pictou County GSAR, Strait Area GSAR, Inverness County GSAR, Colchester GSAR), Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources Air Services, Nova Scotia Public Safety Field Communications, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and multiple RCMP units.

Police say there is no information to suggest the child got out of the water safely and the extensive search has not resulted in information that would allow responders to pin point a location for the child’s remains.

The search was suspended on April 19 at 5 p.m.

RCMP say any further search efforts would resume by air at a later date.
