Man arrested after trying to start fight with construction workers, Halifax police say

Halifax Regional Police say a man has been charged with assault with a weapon and property damage after an incident in downtown Halifax on Friday night.

According to police, around 8:30 p.m. Friday on Spring Garden Road, a man approached a group of construction workers and tried to show them “sexually inappropriate” pictures on his phone.

“When they refused and attempted to usher him away, the man tried to instigate a fight,” police wrote in a media release. “The man then punched one of the workers and struck him in the head with the cellphone.”

Police also say the man threw a rock through a pane of glass before leaving the area.

The suspect, a 29-year-old man, was found and arrested about 20 minutes later.

HRP says he’ll be in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
