The province’s museums are offering free and reduced admission for youth as part of the Canada Strong program this summer.
“This program opens the door for more families and young people to discover Nova Scotia,” said Dave Ritcey, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “Whether it’s seafaring and shipwrecks, striking art exhibitions or life in a 19th-century village, these experiences invite travellers to slow down, look closer and discover what makes our province unique.”
As of last Friday, children and young adults can get in for free or at reduced rates to all provincial museums, as well as the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
The province says that from June 20 until Sept. 2, children age 17 and under will receive free admission, while people aged 18 to 24 will receive 50 per cent off admission fees.
This comes after the federal government announced the Canada Strong Pass last week, aimed at making it easier for residents to explore Canada.
Meantime, the province also announced a new boat school at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, aimed at helping the museum meet growing demand for boatbuilding and watercraft programs it offers to underserved youth.
The Nova Scotia Museum has 28 locations across the province, including the Museum of Natural History in Halifax, the Highland Village Museum in Iona, and the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic in Lunenburg.
