A pair of youths are facing charges after what police are calling a racially motivated assault.
According to the RCMP, officers were called just before 5 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of an assault in the parking lot of a recreation centre on Forest Hills Parkway in Cole Harbour.
Police say three youths followed a man, a woman and two children to a vehicle. It was here that the youths allegedly “shouted obscenities and racially motivated hate speech before one of the youths sprayed an irritant in the man’s face,” states an RCMP media release.
The suspects fled on foot once police were called.
Police say two youths were arrested on Tuesday in Dartmouth. Both are facing charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. One of the youths is facing an additional charge of fail to comply with release order.
The two have been released on conditions after an appearance in Youth Court on Wednesday.
The RCMP says the third youth involved has not yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
