Wildfire near Head of St Margaret’s Bay is now officially under control

A wildfire near the south end of Big Indian Lake, close to Head of St. Margaret’s Bay, is now officially under control, according to Halifax Regional Municipality.

The fire began around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday off Pipeline Road. Firefighters from Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, along with crews from the Department of Natural Resources, responded to the blaze.

Initial estimates pegged the fire at 1.2 hectares, but it has since been reduced to 0.5 hectares.

HRM says DNR crews will remain on scene over the next few days to monitor for flare-ups or hotspots.

There were no structures in the area affected by the fire.
