Two killed in head-on crash east of Halifax

The RCMP says two people were killed in a head-on crash just east of Halifax on Friday morning.

Officers responded to the crash just after 7 a.m. on Highway 107 near Mineville, according to a media release.

Police say an eastbound Mazda 3 collided with an eastbound Hyundai Kona before the Mazda collided head-on with a westbound Mazda 3.

The drivers of both Mazdas, a 31-year-old woman from Gaetz Brook and a 48-year-old man from Porters Lake, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A child passenger in one of the vehicles and a 19-year-old passenger in the other were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the Hyundai was not physically injured.

The RCMP says the investigation into the crash is now underway, and the highway has reopened to traffic.
