Tentative deal reached between Saint Mary’s and part-time faculty

A tentative agreement has been reached after weeks of strike action by part-time faculty at Saint Mary’s University.

CUPE 3912, the union representing the striking workers, announced the deal on Thursday afternoon.

“The agreement includes a wage adjustment and regular increases; increase from 3 to 5 years for (re)appointment; a reduction of stipend steps; and increased vacation pay,” read a media release from CUPE.

The union says members have already started voting on the new contract.

Information sessions have been scheduled for Friday for members to learn more about the deal.

Part-time faculty at SMU went on strike on October 23.

Part-time faculty at Mount Saint Vincent University, also represented by CUPE, remain on strike.
