If you’ve been putting off accepting that it is getting colder and snowier, a potential storm this weekend will show you that winter is here to stay.
Environment Canada has issued marine weather warnings for areas along the southwest coast of Newfoundland approaching northeastern Nova Scotia including the Banquereau ocean bank.
Forecasters have issued a gale warning for these areas with wind speeds reaching up to 35 knots.
The storm is currently blowing wet towards Nova Scotia, bringing blizzard-like conditions to the region.
On Sunday morning, Environment Canada issued winter storm warnings for Victoria, Inverness, Antigonish, and Pictou Counties, as well as northern Colchester County, with 25 to 40 cm of snow forecasted.
With northwesterly wind gusts of up to 80 to 90 km/h, blowing snow and reduced visibility are expected.
“Heaviest accumulations are expected to be overnight tonight in the mainland and during daylight hours Monday in Cape Breton,” Environment Canada says. “Snowfall rates of several cm per hour are possible.”
Special weather statements have also been put in place for Halifax as well as Kings, Hants, Guysborough, Richmond, and Cape Breton Counties.
In these areas 10 to 15 cm of snow is forecasted, with some coastal areas also experiencing 15 to 20 mm of rain.
