New casino to be built at Dartmouth Crossing to replace Halifax location

After 25 years on the Halifax waterfront, Casino Nova Scotia is moving.

The provincial government on Wednesday announced a deal with Great Canadian Entertainment, a casino operator, to build a new location at Dartmouth Crossing, a busy shopping district. The company will own, operate and maintain the new location.

“Great Canadian has the expertise and track record we need to ensure the continued success of casino operations in our province,” said acting Finance and Treasury Board Minister Timothy Halman. “This move also creates an opportunity for new development in downtown Halifax.”

The government says the current Halifax casino property will be listed for sale in the coming weeks, but will continue operating while the new facility is being built.

The Sydney location of Casino Nova Scotia will not be moving.

The press release notes that the province made $41.6 million from casino operations in Halifax and Sydney in 2025.
