Rally planned at Province House after public banned from legislature

Another protest is set to take place in front of Province House in Halifax.

The All Hands on Deck Rally will be gathering in front of the legislature at noon Friday to oppose the Houston government’s budget cuts and the House Speaker banning Nova Scotians from the building earlier this week.

The Speaker made the decision to ban the public from attending the Legislature following a spontaneous singing protest from the gallery, in opposition to a vote to pass the Appropriations Act.

The province says that singing delayed the government’s session on Tuesday night.

Organized by several groups representing arts, environment, labour, treaty and students, the rally is expected to last about two hours.

According to a release, car pools are being organized around the province to bring people to Halifax for the demonstration, with support from The Nova Scotia Arts Coalition and in concert with the Ecology Action Centre, The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, Shoulder to Shoulder/We Are All Treaty People, the NSGEU, the Canadian Federation of Students and other organizations.
