The RCMP says two people in the Halifax area were arrested for impaired driving in separate incidents on Monday night.
According to police, officers pulled over a vehicle at around 10:20 p.m. in East Ship Harbour after it was seen driving 100 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 7.
The 42-year-old driver from Tangier appeared impaired, police said, and he failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested and provided breath samples registering a blood alcohol level of 140 mg per cent and 130 mg per cent.
That same night, just before 2 a.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a Honda SUV in a ditch on Highway 7 in Porters Lake. The driver, a 51-year-old Porters Lake woman, was inside the vehicle and was unhurt, police said.
“Officers observed, however, that the driver was displaying signs of impairment,” the RCMP said. “A roadside breath sample was obtained which resulted in a fail.”
The woman was arrested and taken to the Cole Harbour RCMP detachment, where she blew 210 mg per cent and 220 mg per cent breath samples.
The drivers in both incidents were released and will face charges in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
