Nova Scotians are getting another break at the pump after the provincial regulator invoked the interrupter clause on Saturday.
Effective at midnight, the Nova Scotia Energy Board adjusted the prices of gasoline and diesel due to “significant shifts in the market prices.”
As of Saturday, the price of regular self-serve gasoline in Halifax is 178.7 cents per litre.
That is a decrease of 6.7 cents.
Diesel saw an even bigger drop of 14.5 cents to sit at 223.1 cents per litre.
The Energy Board monitors the markets for gasoline and diesel oil daily and, should conditions warrant, may set a new price at any time.
The move comes one day after the Energy Board made its weekly adjustment, lowering both gas and diesel prices amid fragile ceasefire talks in the Iran war.
While the relief at the pumps is welcomed, one expert warns it may only be temporary.
Constantine Passaris, an economics professor at the University of New Brunswick, is skeptical about the peace talks between the United States and Iran, causing “concern and anxiety that oil prices will continue with their upward peak after this lull of the next few days”.
Passaris said Maritimers should take advantage of the dip in prices as analysts watch closely as the U.S. and Iran hold high-level negotiations in Pakistan Saturday.
