Mooseheads’ newest signing first of many in busy offseason

The Halifax Mooseheads have begun strategizing for the off-season with the team’s first free-agency signing.
On Tuesday, the Mooseheads announced the team signed Evan Nee, an Arlington, MA., native who comes to the squad as one of the most productive players in the history of St. Mark’s School’s hockey program.
Completing his prep career ranked third all-time in school scoring and topping 100 points in December last year, the Mooseheads assistant general manager, Allie MacDonald, says Nee will play a prominent role for the team next year.
“We have seen him for a couple years now and he always seems to take that leadership role with his team,” says MacDonald, adding Nee served as team captain last year, where he posted an impressive 25 goals, 32 assists, and 57 points in just 30 games. “(His) compete level is very, very high. That’s probably what first draws your attention to somebody like him.”
MacDonald says the move marks the start of what could be a busy off-season signing spree that really kicks off Tuesday night when the Mooseheads take part in the QJMHL’s draft lottery.
The Mooseheads hold a nearly 29 per cent chance of landing the first overall pick, the second-best odds behind Rouyn-Noranda. Halifax will host the QMJHL entry draft in June.
“We do have a fair number of picks,” says MacDonald.”So from (general manager) Cam Russell down, everybody is at the table wanting to make this team a better team.”
