Police watchdog investigating after man seriously injured during arrest in Halifax

An investigation by the police watchdog is underway after a man suffered serious injuries during an arrest by Halifax Regional Police.
Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says the incident happened in the early morning hours of April 18.
HRP officers were chasing a vehicle, and a spike belt was deployed to stop the driver, the release reads.
The man in the vehicle then fled the scene on foot but was tacked down and arrested.
SiRT says that during the arrest, an altercation happened, and the man suffered serious injuries to his face and chest.
The watchdog investigates all matters involving death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence relating to police action.
