RCMP warning Nova Scotians after man charged for hefty Hebbville fraud

A man from Ontario is facing fraud charges after an investigation revealed he allegedly duped at least one Nova Scotian out of tens of thousands of dollars.
Lunenburg District RCMP made the arrest following a lengthy investigation that goes back to 2023, when a Hebbville resident reported they had invested over $65,000 in what they thought was a UK-based investment company.
At the time, they were told their investment would earn interest, but those payments were never received, and attempts to contact the fraudulent company’s representatives went nowhere.
After contacting the legitimate company associated with the fraudulent investment directly, the Hebbville resident learned they had been defrauded.
According to officials, several others across Canada have fallen for the same scam, with the Hebbville complaints forwarded to the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated Market Enforcement Team (IMET) in Calgary.
Following an in-depth investigation, IMET identified a suspect connected to the complaint and notified Lunenburg District RCMP, who have since arrested a 65-year-old from Ontario.
Mounties say the accused will appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on June 17.
RCMP is also warning others could be victims of similar fraud and are reminding people to contact their local police, Crime Stoppers or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 if they suspect they have been targeted.
