Groups serving 2SLGBTQIA+ Nova Scotians earn financial bump

The Nova Scotia government has announced nearly $176,00 in grants for 2SLGBTQIA+ community groups in the province.
The government says community organizations serving diverse Nova Scotians are receiving support for 11 projects. Of the funding, $50,000 is going to Truro Pride, which is planning to hold a provincial conference later this year.
“Creating spaces where people can come together, share knowledge and support one another matters deeply,” Jillian Toonders, chair of the Truro Pride Society, said in a provincial release.
“This conference will help strengthen the relationships and collaboration that support 2SLGBTQIA+ communities across Nova Scotia.”
Community organizations are receiving funding through the first round of grants, including LakeCity Works in Dartmouth, which is receiving $25,000 for its Queer Careers program.
It also aims to provide paid work placements where people learn skills, gain credentials and receive peer support to secure and maintain meaningful employment.
The funding comes as part of the province’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan and the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community Impact Grant program, which were announced in January.
