63-year-old woman injured during RCMP arrest, investigation underway

The Serious Incident Response Team (or SiRT) is now investigating an incident involving a woman being injured during an arrest by the Halifax detachment of the RCMP.

The event occurred on July 24, shortly before 5:00 p.m., when officers responded to a disturbance reported in the 100 block of Dickey Dr in Lower Sackville. The officers on scene learned that a 63-year-old woman was breaching court-ordered conditions. Officers arrested the woman on scene for failing to comply and criminal harassment. During the arrest, the woman was reportedly injured.

The woman was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and she is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court in the future.

The incident related to her injury during the arrest has been referred to the SiRT. The SiRT is an independent organization that investigates “serious incidents” that occur due to the actions of police in Nova Scotia.

As the investigation is now under the responsibility of the SiRT, the RCMP said they could provide no further comment in their release on the matter.
