Heat and humidity to rest over Nova Scotia with temperatures in the 30s

Higher-than-usual temperatures are expected on Wednesday and could last until later this week, warns Environment Canada.
According to the weather agency, temperatures are expected to rise between 30 to 33 C, but it could feel as hot as 38 with the humidity.
“A hot and humid air mass is expected to move into the region today, bringing a period of persistently high daytime temperatures and elevated humidex values,” it notes in a message.
Overnight temperatures will provide little relief to people as temperatures are only dropping to around 19 C. Conditions are set to improve by the weekend, Environment Canada meteorologists predict, but some areas could still feel the humidity.
Experts are asking people to take precautions as heat increases. It can impact everyone’s health, the agency said, especially older adults, people living alone and at-risk individuals.
Nova Scotians are encouraged to watch for signs of heat exhaustion in themselves and others. Signs include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst and intense fatigue.
“If your living space is hot, move to a cool public space such as a cooling centre, community centre, library or shaded park,” it reads.
Long-rang shows lack of rain
Forecasts show that in Halifax, there could be no rain until early next week.
On top of the heat, temperatures are expected to rest well into the high 20s for the weekend. While it’s not expected to be as sticky, the lack of rain is a concern for wildfires and farmers.
The most recent drought map by Environment Canada said that the province is “notably dry.”
Published July 9, the map shows that portions of the Atlantic provinces saw “substantial variation” in precipitation.
Some had above-normal totals while others fell below average, experts said in the report.
“Temperatures were also mixed with western New Brunswick and Nova Scotia
slightly warmer than average, while eastern portions of both provinces, along with all of Newfoundland and PEI, were cooler,” it reads.
