Man’s human remains found north of Truro considered to be criminal

RCMP are canvassing a wooded area in a small rural town north of Truro after human remains were discovered.

Police said they received the report on July 22 of the possible remains in the area of Debert, N.S., about 20 kilometres northwest of Truro. Officers went to the area and found the remains of a man.

Major crime and the Colchester County District units of the RCMP are working with the Nova Scotia medial examiner to confirm his identity and how he died.

Officials said since the discovery, police have searched the area further to find more evidence. They do believe criminality is a factor in the man’s death.

The investigation is still in the early stages and there’s no risk to the public, the release notes.

“Since the man’s remains were discovered, extensive searches have been conducted in the area,” says Cpl. Mandy Edwards, Nova Scotia RCMP Public Information Officer. “We understand there’s been rumour and speculation within the community, and that this may’ve caused distress. However, our primary responsibility is to protect our ability to investigate.”
