Police catch two drivers going more than 130 km/h in Dartmouth

Two drivers are facing serious speeding charges after Halifax Regional Police caught them going well above the limit on Highway 111.
The first incident happened on Aug. 31 around 9:00 a.m. An officer from the traffic unit clocked a vehicle travelling near Mount Hope Avenue, an 80 km/h zone.
Police say the vehicle was travelling 133 km/h. The 30-year-old driver was ticketed under the Motor Vehicle Act, and he is facing an offence for violating vehicle equipment standards, costing a $237 fine.
Then, a few days later on Sept. 2, police were patrolling the same area.
This time they saw a vehicle travelling at 138 km/h around 9:20 a.m.
The 30-year-old woman was ticketed and faces a further offence of failing to obey a peace officer.
“Stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act is a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit,” police explained in the press release.
The fine in Nova Scotia is $2,422, six points assigned to the driver’s record and they are suspended for seven days.
“In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement,” the release notes.
