Firefighters were called to the casino in Halifax after a power interruption caused a generator to malfunction.
The calls came in around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday as Casino Nova Scotia’s first floor started filling with heavy smoke. When crews arrived, smoke was pouring out of the building on Water Street.
Because of the amount of smoke coming from the building, officials upgraded the incident to a second alarm to bring more resources to the area.
A team of firefighters went inside and the found smoke coming from a 12-inch pipe on the first flood near the parkade. Crews realized that it was from a power generator that had kicked on from a power outage that morning. It was turned off quickly.
Once that was done, smoke stopped immediately. A fire chief told CityNews that another team went to other parts of the building to make sure there were no toxic gasses lingering.
The situation was brought under control quickly by firefighters.
