Gas prices down as Trump boasts end to Iran war is ‘soon’

After nearing $2 a litre, gas prices have decreased slightly to the relief of Nova Scotians.
The Nova Scotia Energy Board used the interrupter clause to change the price of gas from 199.1 to 193.7, a 5.4-cent decrease. While slight, it’s still wanted news for people’s wallets.
Prices for diesel on Wednesday held at 261.9 cents per litre, after three other instances where the interrupter has been used on the fuel this month.
This comes after a particularly volatile month, where U.S. President Donald Trump has continued to reject Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz where a large portion of the world’s gas travels through.
Iran offered this week to reopen the strait and resume talks on its nuclear program in seven days if the U.S. lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales and observes a ceasefire that would include Lebanon.
But on Saturday, Trump rejected the proposal saying Iran wanted to make a deal because it was “losing so badly.”
On Tuesday, Washington is waiting for Tehran’s response to its new ceasefire proposal, prompting the president to say that the war could be over soon.
“Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, and they’re failing very badly, very badly,” Trump said. “That’ll be over with very soon.”
Iran effectively closed the strait after the U.S. and Israel attacked the Islamic Republic in late February, and the number of ships passing through has dropped significantly because of Iranian threats and attacks on vessels in the waterway.
