Neighbourhood Placemaking applications now open in Halifax

Neighbourhood Placemaking applications have opened for the region of Halifax and will remain open until Sunday, Nov. 8.

This program is offered annually, backed by the municipality to support neighbours in their efforts to connect through community projects. For example, seed and plant libraries, neighbourhood benches, upcycled art installations or street painting has been some past successful projects, said a release.

Successful applicants will receive training, guidance and funding for their neighbourhood project.

Applications are open to any of the following project streams:

  • Placemaking Create: Supports neighbour-led placemaking projects of any theme. Successful projects are eligible to receive between $1,500 to $4,000 in support funding.
  • Placemaking Art: For projects addressing any topic and who will hire an artist. Successful projects are eligible to receive between $3,000 to $7,000 in support funding.
  • Environmental Placemaking: For projects that contribute to climate resilience and sustainability in your neighbourhood. Successful projects are eligible to receive between $3,000 to $10,000.

The application is available at this link and asks questions like who is on the team, project description and why it matters.

This is in an effort to support the 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, where the city envisions more welcoming and livable communities.

The municipality will be hosting a virtual program information session on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants can register by emailing placemaking@halifax.ca with your name, neighbourhood and email address.

Residents who are unable to attend the information session can reach out to the Community Developer for their area to discuss their project idea before the application deadline.
