‘Like a donair, without the regret’, Dartmouth eatery serves city’s favourite dish in soup form

Nothing causes more of a foodie frenzy in this city than adding donair to, well, pretty much anything.

You’ve probably enjoyed Halifax’s most beloved dish in egg roll and pizza form, but now a Dartmouth eatery is serving up donair soup.

Roz Wilson-Oliver and Jenn Service are co-owners of the Souper Duper Soup shop on Ochterloney Street told NEWS 95.7, the dish has brought in a lot of new faces to their restaurant.

“We have had a couple of people on social media who have shied away from even wanting to trying it, but definitely everybody who’s tried it has loved it,” they said.

The soup consists of a beef broth with hamburger, tomato, onion, mozzarella cheese, and a homemade donair sauce.

“It’s kind of like a donair, without the regret,” they described.

The eatery, which has only been in operation for about two months, switches up their offerings on a weekly basis, and donair isn’t the only non-traditional item they serve.

“We have cabbage roll soup next week, and that’s the second time we’ve brought it around in a year…we do have very inventive soups, we have Philly cheesesteak coming up in two weeks.”

Wilson-Oliver and Service said the demand is so high, they’ve already sold out of donair soup twice.
