Halifax woman delivers defibrillator to person in need

By Chris Halef

A Halifax woman says she ran several blocks to deliver a life saving device from her office building.

Last month, Shelley Burgess-Butler received a call from EHS, asking her to deliver an automated external defibrillator to an address.

She says she had it registered as public, adding it can be the difference in saving a person's life.

“It was a little panicky, but I had a little bit of time on my run up there to start thinking about the situation and what I would have to do if I needed to,” said Burgess-Butler to Global News.

Her cousin-in-law Marc Butler agrees about the importance of the devices, telling Global News an AED saved his life.

“I see them everywhere, but I don't know if they're registered,” he explained. “It may take 15 minutes for an ambulance to come, when it could take someone a minute and a half to walk across the street.”

February is Heart Month, which raises awareness of the importance of cardiovascular health.
