Adopt Me: Handsome Lewis

He is looking for a larger home, with no other pets or children

CityNews Halifax, in partnership with the Dartmouth SPCA, brings you a regular feature highlighting a special pet that is in need of adoption.

Lewis is making his adoption debut! He has spent some time in a foster home and his foster mom let us know the following about him:

"This handsome boy is Lewis! I started fostering Lewis in December 2021. He is very friendly, likes to play (especially with wand toys where he can catch something!) and explore, and can be quite affectionate.

He doesn't mind being held and will even do a little head bump for some kisses but will let you know when he wants down. He will take naps with you and come sit on your chest when you lay down.

Lewis can also get over-stimulated quite easily. This was why I started fostering him, to investigate this more. From what I can tell, he is either over-stimulated or has some pent-up energy that he doesn't know what to do with (because he will never hiss at you). I think that he maybe worries about humans sometimes. He only ever nips at me when he's on my bed or couch, and I'm not moving (for example, on my phone). Toys help a lot.

When he first started doing this, I got him a wand toy and he didn't for a while. I think another aspect is that he needs more space, and possibly would like to be an indoor/outdoor cat. I live in a small apartment, and again, he loves to explore. He's always looking around, up at the ceilings, out the windows at the birds. So, his forever home would need to be a house, if possible. Or he would need a lot of toys, and for you of course, to play with him.

Overall, Lewis is such a sweet boy, and he truly grows on you. I believe he will be happier with a bigger home and someone who has a bit more time to play with him - he has quite a bit of energy and needs to be able to get it out!"

Lewis is looking for a home with no other animals and no children. His ideal home would be one he can explore the outdoors after spending time adjusting to the home as we believe this will help curb unwanted behaviours. Not allowing him on your bed may also help with this.

Lewis will not be suitable in an apartment or condo.

If you are interested in meeting Lewis, he is not located at the shelter as he is happy in his foster home. Please fill out the online application and we will contact you in regards to meeting him:
