Adopt Me: Judy needs a patient owner

She would prefer an adult-only home with no other pets

HalifaxToday, in partnership with the Dartmouth SPCA, brings you a regular feature highlighting a special pet that is in need of adoption.

Judy is a three-year-old mastiff mix (35 kg) suitable for an adult-only home. Judy needs to be the only animal in the home.

Judy arrived into our care very scared, hungry and thin. It appeared Judy had been on her own for some time. She took a few days to start trusting her caretakers, however, once that trust was built she stole all of our hearts with her giant sweet, slobbery face.

Judy is a big strong girl at about 90 pounds. She doesn't always have the best physical boundaries and will require training. She is also (unsurprisingly) possessive about her food and for these reasons we are suggesting an adult-only home.

Judy may take a little time to warm up but she has a ton of love to give. Playful, warm, and full of good natured companionship, Judy needs a patient person or people willing to put in the time and offer her lots of consistency to be her best self. She starts her walks full of jumps and excitement but after a few minutes she calms down beautifully and is an excellent walking companion.

Judy is generally indifferent to other dogs, but can be dog selective and is not suitable for dog parks or situations where she must socialize with unfamiliar dogs. Judy may have had a rough life but the light in her eyes is very bright. We all hope she finds a love big enough to match her massive Mastiff heart.

Judy is available for adoption from the Dartmouth SPCA. Please use the following link and follow the steps to submit an application and request an appointment:
