CityNews Halifax, in partnership with the Dartmouth SPCA, brings you a regular feature highlighting a special pet that is in need of adoption.
Approx Age: 5 years
"Poppy is a lovely lady whose personality is as sweet as her looks! She has a huge fluffy tail and a little patch of white under her chin. She has been a delightful guest in her foster home and is well mannered. She was a bit shy at first but once she felt comfortable, she showed us her friendly, social, and playful side. One day, she started talking to us and has the most adorable squeak instead of a meow. It usually means she would like to be picked up for a cuddle. Her favorite toys are the little mice which she stalks and then carries around. She loves to have cuddles and brushings and is always close by.
Poppy is on a hard food diet (half cup per day) and never bugs us for food. She is a good self-regulator of her diet. She loves having her water from a fountain that is in a different spot from her food. Having her daily pill is not something she enjoys, but she endures it!
Poppy will do well in a quiet setting. In her foster home, she has had opportunities to meet several new people and was happy to be cuddled and loved by everyone. She is ready to bring joy to her new home!"
Poppy has a tendency to become stressed easily which in turn may cause her to stray from using her litterbox. To resolve this issue she is currently on an anti-anxiety medication which seems to be doing very well for her. Once adopted it would be up to the new family to continue this medication with oversight from their new vet clinic. She has been in a foster home for a while now and is doing amazing and is excited to start that next chapter with her forever family.
Poppy is available for adoption through the Dartmouth SPCA. If interested in meeting Poppy and possibly adding her to your home please submit an online application here.
