ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary say they've arrested a suspect after two people were injured by gunfire in the town of Conception Bay South.

Earlier today, police said they responded to what they described as two targeted shootings in the town.

Two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries, the police force said through its Twitter account.

Later, police put out an alert asking people to shelter in place as they searched for the suspect, 31-year-old Matthew Fowler.

Schools in the town were also asked to remain secure while authorities conducted their manhunt.

Less than an hour after the emergency alert was issued, police took the suspect into custody this afternoon.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Sept. 22, 2022.
