ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The high snowbanks that have been a distinctive feature in St. John's, N.L., since a record-breaking January blizzard have created a new opportunity for would-be thieves.
Police in the provincial capital are advising residents to clear snow banks around their homes after a recent string of break-ins.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says officers responded to several residential break and enters in the city's Waterford Valley neighbourhood over the weekend.
The force says people should clear high snow banks around doors and windows that are not usually accessible from the ground.
A news release also advises people to lock all doors and windows.
The break-ins are under investigation and police are asking people to share any information with police or Crime Stoppers.
