Volunteers needed for Alderney Landing COVID-19 clinic

A COVID-19 rapid testing clinic at the Alderney Gate Public Library is seeking volunteers — and Haligonians don't need any experience to offer their time.

Three rapid testing clinics are open in the Halifax Regional Municipality on Sunday including:
- East Dartmouth Community Centre, 50 Caledonia Rd., Dartmouth from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Halifax Convention Centre (Argyle St. entrance), 1650 Argyle St., Halifax from noon to 7 p.m.
- Alderney Gate Public Library, 60 Alderney Dr., Dartmouth from noon to 7 p.m.
The clinic at the Alderney Gate Public Library is currently seeing a shortage of volunteers.
While a shortage wasn't identified at the other two clinics, anyone can sign up for a slot to volunteer at any pop-up testing clinic.
Those interested in signing up can fill out this form and schedule a time slot through a phone call, text or email.
Volunteer shifts are around four hours and include all roles including testing and swabbing, registration, screening, greeting and notifying of results.
Dr. Lisa Barrett, an infectious disease specialist and researcher at Dalhousie University, said no medical background or experience is required — every volunteer is trained.
Each testing site takes 70 volunteers.
As Nova Scotia continues seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases, hundreds of people have been getting rapid tests.
Oftentimes, long lines have been forming even before the rapid testing sites open for the day.
