Nova Scotia is reporting on Sunday that there are 85 people in the hospital who were admitted due to COVID-19.

All of those people are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.

Eighty-two of those 85 people were admitted during the Omicron wave.

As of Jan. 23, there are 11 people in the ICU.

The province says the age range of people in the hospital with COVID-19 ranges between 23 and 100-years-old. The average age is 67.

Nova Scotia also indicates there are two other groups of people in the hospital related to COVID-19.

One group includes 83 people who were identified as positive upon arrival at the hospital but were admitted for another medical reason or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care.

The second group is made up of 119 people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to the hospital.

On Jan. 22, Nova Scotia Health Authority labs completed 3,063 tests. There are also 503 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases being reported.

The province reports the following number of cases in each zone:

  • 256 cases in Central Zone
  • 76 cases in Eastern Zone
  • 63 cases in Northern Zone
  • 108 cases in Western Zone

Over the weekend, Nova Scotia has been issuing abbreviated COVID-19 releases. The province will update its online dashboard on Monday, Jan. 24.

“The number of COVID-19 admits and discharges to hospital is not available today,” the release says.
