Prince Edward Island reports two more deaths from COVID-19, 16 patients in hospital

CHARLOTTETOWN — Prince Edward Island is reporting two more deaths as a result of COVID-19.

In weekly data released today, health officials say the deaths occurred in the past week and involved a person between the ages of 60 and 79 and a person over the age of 80.

There have been 23 deaths attributed to novel coronavirus on the Island since the beginning of the pandemic.

A total of 16 patients are in hospital with the disease, including two in intensive care.

Health officials have identified 1,928 new virus cases since the last update on April 12 for an average of 275 cases per day.

There are a total of 10 outbreaks in long-term care or community care facilities, while 18 early learning and child-care centres are dealing with cases or outbreaks of COVID-19.
